With this handy device, you can automatically drop one or more hay nets at a pre-set time.
Many setups are possible. For example, you can set up a hay net high in a (shelter) stable. If the ceiling isn’t high enough, you might consider adding a board to shield the hay net from the horses before it falls. Another option is to place a tall post in the ground and hang the net from it. The setup doesn’t have to involve a hay net; you can also get creative with a drop hatch or flap. Some examples are shown in the reviews. Read the manual here!
When you purchase the Hayfall, you have the option to order it with or without the starter package. We recommend choosing the starter package for your first setup. With this starter package, you have all the necessary items to create a simple installation.
The components have been tested and carefully selected for a long lifespan and optimal performance in combination with the Hayfall. The package includes 8 meters of rope, 1 carabiner, 2 pulleys, 2 swing hooks, and some cable ties.
The cable ties are intended for extra safety and can be used to attach the hay net to the carabiner. Cable ties are included for an important reason: if a horse pulls too hard on the hay net or gets tangled in it, it is crucial that the hay net comes loose, rather than the rope, hooks, and pulleys.
If you prefer to order only the device, you can get the Hayfall without the starter pack. It comes standard with 4 AA batteries. You will then need to provide your own rope, hooks, and pulleys (available at most hardware stores).
The Hayfall can hold up to 10 kg of pulling force on the clamp. If this weight is exceeded, the clamp will automatically open. This is a safety feature to prevent damage to the device. With a standard setup, you can hang a total of 10 kg of hay. Using additional pulleys, you could increase the capacity. See the PaddockTweaks Hayfall manual for more details.
The Hayfall is splash-proof, which means it is resistant to light moisture but not to rain. Place the device in a sheltered location to avoid unnecessary exposure to moisture, which will benefit its longevity.
Ensure that the surface is level. If not, you can first mount a board and attach the Hayfall to it.
