Execution of the slow feeder from Duranet:
Square/rectangular hay nets/slow feeders for feeding roughage to horses and ponies.
Duranet produces high-quality nets that are sustainable and environmentally friendly; over 95% of the raw materials used for Duranet products are recyclable. The nets are made from durable knotless strong polypropylene with a wire thickness of 5mm.
The flat hay nets are sewn closed on the sides and open at the top. They have 6mm thick hanging cords, each 1 meter long, attached to all four corners.
Why use a hay net/slow feeder:
Feeding roughage (hay and pre-cut silage) with a hay net slows down the foraging duration (eating time). The horse can consume smaller amounts of roughage at a time, similar to what occurs in nature. In the wild, horses graze for an average of 16 hours a day, and their digestive system is adapted to this pattern. A longer eating time has a positive effect on the digestive system, reducing the risk of conditions like gastric ulcers. It also helps prevent boredom and reduces stable vices. Additionally, using a hay net results in less wasted roughage.
Sizes of slow feeder:
These hay nets have a mesh size of 45mm. Hay nets with a mesh size of 60mm are also available for a slower feeding rate.
Available in the following dimensions, width x height:
- 90cm x 100cm

- 300cm x 100cm

Attachment of hay net:
The hay nets should be hung so that they are 20cm above the ground at the bottom. This maintains the horse's natural foraging posture. Do not hang the bag above the horse's head, as this can allow dust to enter the horse's airways. Use is at your own risk. It is advisable not to let the horse wear a halter or horseshoes when using a hay net to minimize the chance of the horse getting caught. The only exception is a safety pasture halter that easily comes off in emergencies; see an example here. For very small hooves, it is advisable to use the Duranet hay net with a 45mm mesh size.
Separately available simple attachment material, the Duranet bracket plate and carabiner.
Stal Oberon Coaching:
This net is also the choice of Stal Oberon Coaching. They found it very convenient that the nets had small meshes and could be custom-made.
