Features of molasses-free alfalfa pellets:
Luzerne, also known as alfalfa, is the oldest known feed plant. It was already fed to horses 500 years before Christ. Today, luzerne is often a source of fiber in many mueslis. However, due to the valuable properties of luzerne, it is also a very valuable supplement to the diet of a horse or pony in pure form. It contains a high protein content, β-carotene, vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids.
Luzerne (molasses-free) does not disturb the digestive system with starch and sugar as is the case with grain-rich and molasses-rich feed. This allows the digestive process of fibers from roughage to work optimally, and luzerne provides sufficient energy.
Luzerne has a high calcium content. Calcium is important for bones and joints. Calcium is therefore good for the development of bones and joints in young horses and the maintenance of healthy bones and joints in sport horses. Additionally, the high calcium content can compensate for the high phosphorus content in a grain-rich diet.
This luzerne is pressed into pellets, unlike many other luzerne products that are chopped. No molasses or other binding agents are used to press the pellets. The advantage of the pellets is that the product is low in dust and less sharp than chopped luzerne. This is advantageous for horses that do not find chopped luzerne palatable or pleasant.
Lucerne pellets are ideal for:
Especially for sport, breeding, and young horses, alfalfa is an ideal source of concentrate feed.
- Concentrate feed source instead of grain
- Upgrading of hay and pasture grass
- Compensation for high phosphorus levels in grain-rich diets
Recommended feeding method of alfalfa to horses and ponies:
- Upgrading/enriching roughage, 0.3-0.5 kg per 100 kg body weight instead of grain, 1.2 kg alfalfa instead of 1 kg grain for sport and breeding horses
- 0.5-0.8 kg per 100 kg body weight for protein and energy, can also be fed soaked, recommended for horses with poor teeth
- Build up slowly, especially for horses that eat quickly
- Combine with Agrobs Weidemineral Cobs, Seniormineral, or Naturmineral for a complete vitamin and mineral dosage.
