What is thrush:
In thrush, the hoof tissue of the horse's hoof is often rotting in the area around the frog. Often recognizable by a foul odor and black color. But sometimes it is also poorly visible that a thrush bacterium is present in the hoof. Thrush is one of the causes for toe landing instead of heel landing of your horse. The normal frog tissue does not contain nerves and is therefore insensitive. Nerves are located in the tissue between the frog and the frog cushion and above it. If the frog is affected by thrush, the central sulcus is often deepened to this tissue and the frog cushion, making landing on the heel painful for the horse and therefore landing on the toe with all harmful consequences. Therefore, the treatment of thrush is extremely important.

- cracks/splits/holes in the frog and surroundings
Functioning of thrush powder:
The bacteria that cause thrush require a moist environment. Magical Hoof Powder dries out the surface of the frog, making bacterial growth impossible. With Magical Hoof Powder, the hoof is "dusted" as it were, just like flour coats our hands with dust when kneading dough.
How to use Magical Hoof Powder:
In case of thrush, the hoof should be "dusted" with Magical Hoof Powder daily for 4-7 days. Also, any cracks/splits/holes around the frog. Therefore, the bottle is equipped with a pointed tip that allows you to reach deep into the hoof. In severe cases, it is advisable to continue this for a longer period, until new hoof tissue has been able to form. In mild cases, after that, the magical hoof powder can be applied once a week for maintenance of the frog.
Thrush recovery success factors:
In addition to treating thrush, it is also important to remove the causes to prevent recontamination:
- preferably no horseshoes, so that the horse can land properly on its heel and frog
- make sure the horse does not walk in manure and urine
- provide dry standing areas
- limit walking in mud as much as possible
- sufficient movement
- good trimming
