PU foam:
PU foam shims are used under various treeless saddles (especially higher quality brands like Barefoot and Startrekk) for the finishing touch regarding pressure distribution. The foam is soft but has some firmness, making it perfect for smoothing out any final imperfections without affecting the saddle's fit.
Shims:
In case of a difficult horse's back, inlays in the pad alone may not be sufficient. Sometimes it's necessary to add some extra padding in front, back, or in the middle of the pad, as shown in photo 3. For this purpose, you can cut a set of inlays to size. However, you can also purchase a set of shims. It's more cost-effective and can be sent by regular mail! Always use shims in combination with a complete inlay in your pad. The shim should be placed on top of the bottom inlay in your pad so that the bottom inlay can "finish off" the edges of your shim.
